Energizing through Dedication, Giving and Engagement (EDGE), BMO Harris is a shining example of what the EDGE Award symbolizes. Their dedication to supporting A Novel Event year after year, as well as SHARP school programming and the Browning Elementary Greenhouse at Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, has uplifted thousands of students. Their generosity to SHARP spans nine consecutive years with gifts totaling over $150,000. BMO also matches employee contributions, giving young learners the resources they need to achieve lifelong academic success.
Meghan Slocum, Vice Chair of SHARP’s Board of Directors, has driven engagement with SHARP since 2016, where she also serves as Chair of the Education Programs Committee. Thank you to BMO for your commitment over the years, and for giving us the “edge” we need to brighten students’ futures.

Literacy can stand for many things – literacy in the arts, for example, or in math and science knowledge. Thanks to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation (GMF) and the GMF – Mary L. Nohl Fund, our students have the opportunity to achieve literacy in a breadth of subjects. Over the past 15 years, the GMF has contributed just over $400,000 to SHARP, our students and educators. Their gifts helped power in-school and summer programming, as well as SHARP’s expansion into Waukesha County schools.
The Mary L. Nohl Fund, which offers arts opportunities to children and supports local artists, has funded art and literacy projects as well. These include seven public art projects and six We Love to Learn books, including SHARP’s newest book project celebrating diversity in Wisconsin. Thank you to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and GMF – Mary L. Nohl Fund for helping our students develop the confidence they need to become knowledgeable in any subject they choose.

Marshall Chay has devoted his life to making dreams come true for youth all over southeastern Wisconsin. He established the ACME Foundation Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation in 2007, which supports nonprofits like SHARP Literacy, Hunger Task Force, Walnut Way and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Since becoming a SHARP Board member in 2017, Marshall has volunteered countless hours and behind-the-scenes efforts to support SHARP’s students, from donating children’s books to co-chairing fundraisers for the last five years. His networking initiatives as a McDonald’s owner-operator continue to increase support and sponsorship for fundraising events, helping us deliver STEAM-integrated programming for thousands of urban elementary school children throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha and Racine. He continues to serve as an inspiration to SHARP staff and the Board, and we’re honored to present him with the inaugural Dream Maker award.

SHARP partners with educators to foster a love of learning and brighten children’s futures through innovative STEAM-based experiential programs.
